4 cups strawberries, washed, padded dry and sliced
2-3 tbsp. sugar
5 tbsp. red wine
5 tbsp. Sicilian Marsala wine
Dash black pepper
Zest and Juice of ½ lemon
Mint for garnish
Directions:
1. Wash and dry the strawberries. Cut in slices.
2. In a serving bowl, add the strawberries, sugar, wine, Marsala and pepper. Toss gently and cover with plastic.
3. Let sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes or refrigerate for a few hours. Before serving add the zest and lemon juice. Place in smaller bowls, or footed wine glasses. Decorate with a mint leaf.
This is a light Sicilian dessert, often served after a heavy meal. This recipe can also be made with fresh sliced peaches when in season.
